Shots claim city’s 8th victim this week

The Fort Wayne Police Department was called to the Grand Saloon tavern early Saturday morning about gunfire in the parking lot. Soon, they were investigating the city’s eighth homicide in less than a week.

Shortly after 2 a.m., police arrived at 2908 Wayne Trace and found several shell casings and blood on the ground in the parking lot.

Witnesses told them a man had been shot and had been driven away by others. Shortly afterward, police learned that medics had found a man with gunshot wounds in a vehicle near the intersection of Maumee Avenue and Dubois Street, the report said.

He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and died a short time later.

The man’s name was being withheld pending family notification. The report said he was 28.

The Allen County coroner's office ruled Saturday that the death was a homicide.
