Man shoots self in leg with found gun

A Fort Wayne man was taken to a hospital in serious condition late Thursday after he accidentally shot himself in the leg with a gun he said he found in his front yard, a report said.

Officers were called to the man’s home in the 4400 block of Atwood Drive about 11:41 p.m. and found him lying on his couch with a bullet wound to his right calf, police said.

The man said he found the gun in his front yard and took it into his house. When he removed electrical tape from the slide, the gun went off, hitting him in the leg, police said.
