The woman wounded in a drive-by shooting Sunday was identified as a newlywed who was celebrating her recent marriage at a party where the shooting occurred, Fort Wayne police said.
Jamilah Lee, 28, was shot in the face outside her home, at 1005 Milton St., just before 9 p.m. Sunday. She remained at a hospital in critical condition Monday, police said.
Lee, whose maiden name is Young, had applied for a marriage license Friday to wed Zondra Lee, 28, according to court records.
Saturday, they were having a reception; Sunday was kind of a continuation of it, police spokesman Michael Joyner said.
The shooter fled west on Milton Street in a newer-model brown truck and has not yet been located. A full description of the shooter was not available.
Police were called to the home three times Sunday, between 7:45 and 9 p.m., for disturbances involving teenagers at the celebration, police said.
During the second call, police found a group of people in the middle of the street near the home screaming at one another, a report said. Police said Sunday night those people were fighting with sticks.
One of the people in that group was arrested. A 26-year-old woman who lives in the 4500 block of Monroe Street faces a preliminary charge of disorderly conduct after she continued to scream despite police orders to stop, court records state.
The third time police were called, it was to a shooting. At least three people showed up at the home, some of whom were armed, police said.
When police arrived, Lee was on her knees just inside her front doorway, bleeding from the wound, a report said. She was taken to a hospital where she was reported to be in critical condition.
