Mad Ants center out

The Mad Ants will have to play the final two games of their NBA D-League season without their all-star center, Chris Hunter.

Hunter, the 6-foot-11 center from Michigan, limped from the floor late in the Ants' 105-86 victory over the Tulsa 66ers Sunday at Memorial Coliseum, and left the building on crutches.

Sitting in the locker room immediately after the game, Hunter indicated he expected to play in the Ants' home finale Friday against Erie, and then the following night at Erie. But it was later reported he suffered a hairline fracture of his ankle.

"He's out. He's done," Ants coach Jaren Jackson said Wednesday afternoon. "But he did everything he could do for his team and for himself. It's been a great run for him. Now all he needs to do is get better and get ready for the summer."

Hunter, named to the all-NBA D-League second team, led the Ants in scoring and rebounding, with averages of 19.3 and 9.4, respectively. He tied his D-League career high with 34 points Sunday and added 15 rebounds.

Jackson did not expect the team to fill the vacated roster spot for only two games. "We'll probably just go with the nine players we've got," he said.
