Bid to freeze gaming voted down in House

– A move to put the brakes on gambling in Indiana – through expansion or moving existing riverboats or slot machines – failed Tuesday in the House.

Rep. Eric Turner, R-Marion, offered an amendment that would have essentially imposed a three-year moratorium on gambling issues in the state.

This would have included any talk of gambling in Fort Wayne.

Turner said Indiana has reached a saturation point with gaming and should take a step back.

But the amendment failed 55-40.

Area representatives voting in favor were Randy Borror, R-Fort Wayne; Phyllis Pond, R-New Haven; Bill Ruppel, R-North Manchester; Dave Wolkins, R-Winona Lake and Dave Yarde, R-Garrett.

Those voting against were Matt Bell, R-Avilla; Dick Dodge, R-Pleasant Lake; Phil GiaQuinta, D-Fort Wayne; Matt Lehman, R-Berne; Dan Leonard, R-Huntington; and Win Moses, D-Fort Wayne.
