Foundry to add 50 jobs

Metal Technologies Auburn, of Auburn, said today it would add up to 32 permanent jobs and another 20 temporary positions by the end of the year as part of a $1.5 million expansion.

The manufacturer of gray iron castings said in a statement it would add ductile iron manufacturing capabilities to its foundry in Auburn, an affiliate of Auburn-based Metal Technologies Inc.

MTA employs about 140 workers, and the headquarters operation another 70, the statement said.

It said the Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Metal Technologies up to $325,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $85,000 in training grants based on the company's plans. Also, the statement said, the city of Auburn is to consider phasing in additional property taxes at the request of the DeKalb County Economic Development Partnership.
