Thunderstorm downed trees and power lines overnight across the state and in northeast Indiana, leaving thousands without power.
Kosciusko County Emergency Management Director Ed Rock reported that trees and limbs were down this morning on Indiana 19 south of Etna Green and north of Mentone.
He said two barns were damaged in the area of County Road 950 West between County Roads 100 South and 200 South. A third was damaged on County Road 900 West, also between county roads 100 South and 200 South.
Trees were blown over in the area of County Road 800 West between County Roads 100 South and 200 South. County Road 950 West remained closed to traffic as of 9 a.m. to allow Kosciusko County REMC to repair power lines and poles.
Some customers were without power, but exact figures were not immediately available.
In his report, Rock said it appears the damage was from strong straight-line winds that came through with the cold front early this morning. No estimates were immediately available about monetary loss to property.
There have been no reported injuries associated with the storm damage, according to the emergency management office.
In Evansville, an underground natural gas line exploded after lightning hit a nearby tree. The fire was out by the time firefighters arrived and crews were able to turn off the gas. No injuries were reported.
The National Weather Service said up to 6 inches fell in the Bloomington area in the last 24 hours, but most areas saw rainfall of 2 to 4 inches. Street flooding was reported in Indianapolis, Vincennes, Linton and Rockville.
As of midmorning, about 5,000 customers remained without power in the Indianapolis area.
