Master Trooper Doug Kelly saw a car matching the description of the stolen Pontiac about 9:45 a.m. going north on Indiana 1 near Metz Road, the report said. It said the driver went off the road and then went south on Indiana 1, ditching the car in a driveway south of U.S. 20 outside Angola.

A Fremont man was arrested Thursday morning after fleeing an armed burglary in a stolen car and getting into a scuffle that ended with an injured trooper and a shot with a Taser, Indiana State Police said.

About 9:20 a.m., a man with a shotgun forced his way into a house in the 200 block of DeKalb County Road 55, southwest of Hamilton, the state police report said. It said the gunman fled in a burgundy 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SLE four-door.

The man threw a rock and hit Kelly in the head, the report said. Then, it said, Hamilton Town Marshal Joe Patterson arrived and helped subdue the suspect with a Taser shot.

Kelly was treated for two broken fingers on his left hand and a large bump on the head, the report said.

Coty A. Alaura, 23, of Fremont, was taken to the Steuben County Jail on a preliminary charge of battery to a police officer, with other charges pending, the report said.

State police said a shotgun was found in the front passenger compartment of the stolen car, and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department is investigating the residential entry.
