Obama officials to visit Kokomo

WASHINGTON – Two Obama administration officials working to keep auto industry-dependent communities afloat will visit Kokomo Thursday.

Karen Mills, administrator of the Small Business Administration, and Ed Montgomery, director of recovery for auto communities and workers, will meet with government officials, small business owners, labor officials, community leaders and workers to identify ways the federal government can cut through red tape, the White House announced.

Howard County is home to several auto plants and auto-supply operations, some of which have closed or laid off hundreds of workers. The county's 13.7 percent unemployment is one of the highest in Indiana.
