Whitney Young event delayed

Monday's ceremony to unveil a statue designed at Whitney Young Early Childhood Center during the 2007-08 school year has been delayed by bad weather.

Local artist-in-residence Jim Merz completed the sculpture and was scheduled to be unveiled today.

More storms forecast

The National Weather Service said Monday that thunderstorms are expected across northern Indiana and northwest Ohio all day and overnight.

The weather service said some of the storms could become severe with damaging winds and large hail.

It said there is a good chance for thunderstorms Tuesday. After a few dry days, thunderstorms are predicted for Saturday night into Sunday.

Counties in the hazardous weather outlook include:

  • Indiana - LaPorte, St. Joseph in, Elkhart, LaGrange, Steuben, Noble, De Kalb, Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton In, Kosciusko, Whitley, Allen, White, Cass, Miami, Wabash, Huntington, Wells, Adams, Grant, Blackford and Jay.
  • Ohio - Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Allen.
It also includes the following communities; Michigan City, La Porte, South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Goshen, LaGrange, Topeka, Angola, Kendallville, Ligonier, Auburn, Garrett, Knox, North Judson, Winamac, Francesville, Plymouth, Bremen, Rochester, Warsaw, Winona Lake, Columbia City, South Whitley, Fort Wayne, Monticello, Brookston, Logansport, Peru, Wabash, North Manchester, Huntington, Bluffton, Ossian, Decatur, Berne, Marion, Hartford City, Montpelier, Portland, Bryan, Wauseon, Archbold, Defiance, Napoleon, Paulding, Antwerp, Ottawa, Pandora, Van Wert, Delphos and Lima.

Thunderstorm watch issued

The National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm watch for northern Indiana until 11 p.m. Monday evening.

The counties include: Allen, Blackford, Cass, DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, LaPorte, LaGrange Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley.
