Three-car wreck leaves man ‘critical’

A three-car crash on Indiana 1 in Wells County on Wednesday evening sent a 20-year-old Ossian man to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition.

Keith Menefee, 49, of Ossian, was southbound on Indiana 1 just south of the Wells-Allen county line when he took his eyes off the road to retrieve a CD. His 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, according to a Wells County Sheriff’s Department crash report.

The truck struck a northbound 1997 Ford Explorer driven by 39-year-old Elizabeth Moser of Bluffton. The collision sent the SUV about 100 feet into southbound traffic, where it collided head-on with a 1985 Honda CRX driven by 20-year-old Jason A. Chandler of Ossian, the report said.

Chandler was flown to Parkview Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition late Wednesday. Moser and her 15-year-old passenger were treated at Lutheran Hospital and released. Menefee was uninjured.
