Arista Records says Whitney Houston’s long-awaited album will be released Sept. 1. Houston hasn’t released an album in seven years.

There’s no word yet on a title.

The superstar, 45, is one of the best-selling artists, but in recent years, she’s been defined more by drug problems, marital woes and erratic behavior than by her Grammy-winning voice.

12 million catch Leno

Jay Leno’s final “Tonight” show drew close to 12 million viewers.

Leno ended a 17-year run on “Tonight” on May 29, his seventh-highest-rated telecast, with 11.9 million viewers. The highest: Leno’s 1993 show marking the finale of the sitcom “Cheers,” watched by 22 million.

Jay-Z tops power list

It’s been a minute since Jay-Z released an album, but he’s still got enough swagger to land on The Source’s “Power 30” list. The hip-hop magazine calls Jay-Z an industry leader and a top businessman, with ventures with Live Nation and Rocawear, and his part-ownership of the New Jersey Nets.

Others on the list include Diddy, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, will.i.am, Snoop Dogg

and Kimora Lee Simmons.

Pushing for marriage

“Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon, 43, is lobbying New York lawmakers to legalize same-sex marriage. The lifelong New Yorker, engaged to Christine Marinoni, held up her diamond engagement ring at a rally in Albany this week, saying she’s going to marry next summer and hopes to do it in New York.

The legislation backed by Gov. David Paterson has passed the Assembly. Senate Democratic Majority Leader Malcolm Smith is trying to muster votes to pass it.

Jonases spoof video

Watch out, Beyoncé. Joe Jonas is on the case. In the latest “Single Ladies” spoof, the middle Jonas brother tries to crib the diva’s dance style in an online video.

Wearing a black cat suit and matching high heels, Jonas meagerly attempts a few moves while half-lip-synching to the hit song. His brothers and band mates, Nick and Kevin, are shown prodding him to perform.

The Jonas Brothers’ fourth album, “Lines, Vines and Trying Times” is set for release June 16.

Send them to Terri Richardson, The Journal Gazette, 600 W. Main St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802, or e-mail trich@jg.net, by June 11. Please include your name, city of residence and phone number.
