Tech company to invest $20 million in Wabash County

An unnamed technology company plans to invest $20 million in Wabash County, placing operations in the city of Wabash and in North Manchester, a county official said Monday.

Bill Konyha, president and CEO of the Economic Development Group of Wabash County, said he’s waiting for the company’s approval to release details including the number of jobs and whether the company plans to lease or build.

"We’ve got a done deal," he said. "We will have an announcement soon."

The project won’t involve as many immediate jobs as some might like, Konyha said, "but it’s going to set the table for us to do a lot more."

Wabash County had a preliminary April unemployment rate of 12.9 percent, which meant 2,096 people in a labor force of 16,282 were unemployed, according to information the Indiana Department of Workforce Development released in late May.

The April rate was down from the county’s 14.1 percent unemployment rate in March, but almost twice the 6.5 percent in April 2008.
