Attempted murder charge filed in fight over money

A Corunna area man was arrested by the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division late Monday on a charge of attempted murder in connection with a shooting early Sunday.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department received a call shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday that 51-year-old Larry D. Daley, had been shot in the 500 block of County Road 20 in rural Corunna.

State police Detective Mark Heffelfinger reported that an argument between Daley and an acquaintance over money turned violent.

Richard L. Leins, 59, of Corunna is accused of shooting Daley multiple times with a .22 caliber semiautomatic rifle.

Daley was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne where he underwent surgery on Monday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Leins out of DeKalb County Superior I Court on one count of attempted murder. Leins was arrested at his home in the 500 block of County Road 20 about 10:30 pm on Monday and is being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bond.
