Fort Wayne – A logistics firm is moving its Fort Wayne operations center to its suburban Chicago headquarters, taking 70 jobs with it.

NAL Worldwide LLC was spun off from Sirva Inc. in 2005, but it maintained an operations center as part of the Sirva campus at 5001 U.S. 30 W. But as its lease is set to expire, NAL will move those operations into extra space it has in Addison, Ill., spokesman Don Armstrong said Friday.

The move will be complete by Dec. 1.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development on Thursday released NAL’s notice of the move.

Some of NAL’s Fort Wayne employees will be allowed to transfer to Addison. But Armstrong didn’t know how many or on what basis workers would be offered the chance to move.

Armstrong couldn’t give a pay range for the employees.

NAL is a third-party logistics provider. It stores and distributes merchandise made by other companies. The customer-service managers and project coordinators in the Fort Wayne office manage that distribution.

Armstrong said it makes sense that their jobs be moved into company headquarters.

“A lot of these folks performing these functions in Fort Wayne were there when we spun off from Sirva in 2005,” Armstrong said.

When NAL spun off, it was offered tax credits and training grants by the Indiana Economic Development Corp. But spokeswoman Blair West said the company never took advantage of them.

Sirva, based in Westmont, Ill., is expanding its Fort Wayne operations, however. In October, it announced it was moving its national headquarters for moving services to Fort Wayne, adding 240 jobs to a workforce of 460 by the end of 2011.
