Woman saves child from rolling car

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Police in Cedar Rapids say a woman's quick thinking and action kept a young child from being run over by a rolling car.

Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin says 23-year-old Crystal Watts was standing between two cars outside her home Friday afternoon when she noticed that one of the vehicles had become disengaged from park and was rolling toward her.

Officers say Watts saw that a 5- to 6-year-old child was about to be struck by the car, so she pushed the child out of the way but then was pinned underneath the car herself.

Police were able to move the car and release Watts, who suffered bruising on her legs but had no broken bones. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
