Blaze hits warehouse

Fire forced about 20 employees to evacuate a southeast-side warehouse Friday evening as the building filled with smoke.

Firefighters were called to Superior Essex at 3405 Meyer Road about 6:30 p.m. and found fire in a shelf used to store wire spools, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said.

The building’s sprinkler system helped fend off the flames until fire crews found and extinguished the fire. Firefighters brought it under control in less than 15 minutes.

It caused minor damage to the shelving.

But crews stayed at the warehouse for about an hour to ventilate the smoke that accumulated.

The building sustained heavy smoke and water damage.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
