Burglars were trying to jimmy open a door of a house, using a credit card, in the Etna Green and Hoffman Lake area early Wednesday when the homeowner apparently scared them off, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department said.

The credit card was left at the door, which led police to two suspects within 20 minutes, the sheriff's department said in a statement.

Deputies were called about the attempted burglary in the 2600 block of North County Road 800 West shortly after 4:30 a.m.

Warsaw City Police were able to find and detain the suspects at the Shell station at Detroit and Center streets in Warsaw shortly after 4:50 a.m.

Jeffery Alan Reffett, 20, of the 200 block of North James Street in Milford, and Joshua Phillip Geberin, 23, of the 1300 block of Ranch Road in Warsaw, were arrested and preliminarily charged with felony burglary.

They were being held on individual $5,000 bonds.

Police declined to say which suspect owned the credit card.
