Billy Joel and wife Katie Lee are confirming a split.
In a statement, the pair said that they remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other. They wed five years ago at Joels mansion on Long Island.
Joes representative did not says whether the couple were getting a divorce.
This was the Piano Mans third marriage and her first.
Joel, 60, recorded the song All My Life as an anniversary gift to his wife, 27, two years ago.
Oscar-winner Sean Penn is dropping out of two films, The Three Stooges and Cartel.
Spokeswoman Mara Buxbaum did not specify a reason but said that if the productions start dates were postponed, Penn would remain involved.
Penn, 48, was set to star as Larry in the long-gestating Three Stooges (with rumored co-stars Jim Carrey as Curly and Benecio Del Toro as Moe) and as a dad protecting his son in Cartel.

Usher says he and his wife were separated for nearly a year before the R&B singer filed for divorce, calling the marriage irretrievably broken, court records said.
The divorce petition, initiated by Usher, says the couple has lived separately since July. They wed in August 2007. The petition says there is no reasonable hope of reconciliation between Usher, 30, and Tameka Raymond, 38.
Usher is seeking joint custody of their sons, Usher Raymond V, 18 months, and Naviyd Ely Raymond, 6 months. The couple is due in court July 15.
Nielsens recount for ABCs World News last week has boosted its audience by 800,000 viewers. Nielsen Media Research reissued its report Wednesday after ABC disputed the original figures.
Corrected figures for the week of June 8 show ABCs World News averaged 6.99 million viewers. It was the runner-up newscast to NBCs Nightly News, with 8.3 million viewers.
Nielsen had said World News was watched Friday by 4.1 million viewers, well below its Friday average of 7.3 million. Nielsen didnt factor in World News broadcasts for Tuesday and Thursday, when the program was pre-empted for the NBA Finals.
