The national weather service has issued tornado watch until 7 p.m. Friday for the following counties:
- Indiana - Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, LaPorte, LaGrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White, Whitley.
- Michigan - Berrien, Branch, Cass, St. Joseph.

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a flood warning for the St. Joseph River in Ohio above Newville, Ind., from Saturday afternoon to late Tuesday.
At 10 am Friday, the river was 7.6 feet and rising. Minor flooding is forecast.
The flood stage is 12.0 feet.
The river is forecast to rise above flood stage Saturday afternoon and crest near 12.4 feet around 8 a.m. Monday.
At 12.0 feet, DeKalb County Road 42 floods about 3 miles northeast of Newville and low areas flood along the St. Joseph River to the Cedarville Reservoir.
The line of severe thunderstorms with heavy winds and frequent lightning passed through northern Indiana and southwest Michigan early Friday.
As many as 21,000 customers across the Indiana Michigan Power service territory lost power. As of 10:30 a.m., I&M estimates that as many as 19,000 customers remained without power.
As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, 1,400customers in the Fort Wayne area were without power. More than 5,000 customers in South Bend were also without power.
By 5 p.m. Friday, I&M had restored service to more than 10,000 customers. Thirty customers in Fort Wayne remained without power as of that time, as did 1,700 in South Bend.
Southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana seemed to be most affected, the company said.
The company asks customers to report service problems 1-800-311-4634 (Indiana) and 1-800-311-6424 (Michigan)
In Ohio, The Associated Press reported that heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning put some roads under water and cut power to about 20,000 customers Friday morning.
A flash flood watch is in effect until 2 a.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service said Friday afternoon.
The following counties are in the watch area:
- Indiana - Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, LaPorte, LaGrange, Noble, St. Joseph and Steuben.
- Ohio - Allen, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Williams.
- Michigan - Berrien, Branch, Cass, Hillsdale and St. Joseph.
One to 3 inches of rain fell early Friday morning in some areas.
Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop through the evening as a potent cold front moves through the region, the weather service said.

Storms with heavy rain and vivid lightning have been sweeping across Ohio, leaving streets under water in some spots.
In northwest Ohio, which felt the brunt of the severe weather, Defiance and Williams County authorities reported water up to a foot deep flooding some federal and state highways.
Lightning strikes began in Columbus around 7 a.m. Friday, accompanied by strong downpours. American Electric Power reported 4,300 customers without power, mostly in Delaware County north of Columbus.
The National Weather Service has much of western and central Ohio under a severe thunderstorm watch until noon. The forecasters say in some parts of the region, hail, more than an inch of rain and wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible.
