Infant’s death under investigation

Police were called to 2935 Weisser Park Ave. shortly after 11:15 a.m. to assist medics with the child, who was unresponsive and not breathing.

Fort Wayne and Allen County officials are looking into the death this morning of an infant girl.

Police were called to 2935 Weisser Park Ave. shortly after 11:15 a.m. to assist medics with the child, who was unresponsive and not breathing.

She was taken to a city hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said.

Investigators believe the death might have been accidental and were speaking with witnesses Friday to get more details.

The infant's name and age were not being released as of late Friday afternoon.

The exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the county coroner's office. In the meantime, police said the death remains under investigation.
