American heritage celebration

Promise Ministries, 7323 Schwartz Road, and Tell America TV will celebrate America’s heritage at 7 p.m. Friday with presentations by the Honor Guard of Concordia Lutheran High School, patriotic music and prayer.

Camps

The Henry David Thoreau youth camp will continue through Aug. 30 at the Fort Wayne Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5310 Old Mill Road. It includes planting a “pizza garden.” A congregation pizza party will be hosted Aug. 28. For information, call 744-1867.

Clergy assignments

Bishop John M. D’Arcy announced the following priest and deacon assignments throughout the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend: Deacon Andrew Budzinski will serve as a deacon this summer at Saint Mary Parish, Decatur; Deacon Fernando Jimenez has been assigned to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and weekend ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Shrine in Warsaw; the Rev. Bruce Piechocki, J.C.L., has been reassigned to Our Lady of Good Hope Parish and will continue as judicial vicar; the Rev. Mark Gurtner, J.C.L., has been reassigned to St. Anthony de Padua Parish, South Bend, and assigned as adjutant judicial vicar; the Rev. Babasino Fernandes is named chaplain to the Sisters and the residents at Sacred Heart Home, Avilla; the Rev. Derrick Sneyd will pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish, Auburn, effective July 21; the Rev. Philip DeVolder will pastor Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Shrine, Warsaw; the Rev. Dale Bauman has been reassigned to St. Francis Xavier Parish, Pierceton, and associate pastor of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; the Rev. Daryl Rybicki will pastor the Corpus Christi Parish, South Bend; the Rev. Cyril Fernandes has been reassigned to pastor St. John the Baptist Parish; the Rev. Alex Dodrai will pastor St. Patrick Parish, Arcola; the Rev. Francis Chukwuma, J.C.L., has been appointed to pastor St. Joseph Parish, Bluffton; Monsignor Thadeus Balinda will pastor at St. Mary of the Lake Parish, Culver, and chaplain at Culver Academy, effective Aug. 4; the Rev. Lourdino Fernandes has been reassigned to pastor Blessed Sacrament Parish, Albion, effective Oct. 6; the Rev. James Stoyle has been reassigned to pastor Immaculate Conception Parish, Kendallville, effective Oct. 7.

Bishop D’Arcy has accepted the retirement of the Rev. Daniel Leeuw of Sacred Heart Home, Avilla, and Byron Health Center. He will continue to serve the Veterans Hospital and to assist the St. Mother Theodore Guerin Community.

Guest speaker

Bernard Buldt, professor and chair of the philosophy department at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, will speak at 10 a.m. Sunday at Fort Wayne Unitarian Universalist Church, 5310 Old Mill Road.

Vacation Bible schools

Fort

Wayne Christian Women’s Connection, an affiliation of Stonecroft Ministries, will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday at Goeglein’s, 7311 Maysville Road. The theme of the program is “New Again.” A presentation by Jill Martin and Victoria Dalman of Rescued Relics will be featured.
