Strike Zone Spiders win youth baseball tournament
Strike Zone Spiders 14-and-under team won BPA Summerheat Classic at Muncie Central last weekend.
The Spiders went 3-1 to win the tournament, beating the Fort Wayne Heat 4-0 in the championship game. It is the second straight tournament championship and third of the season for the team.
Players on the team are Addison Dellinger, Zach Reinig, Jared Harvey, Sam Cook, Logan Phillips, Alex Lebamoff, Zac Mckinstry, Caleb Richison, Reece Dafforn, Casey Cooney, Justin Keissling, Dustin York and Brandon Walls.
Coaches are Jon Phillips, Bob Lebamoff, Mike Dafforn and Ryan Dellinger.
Soccer teams compete
The Citadel Futbol Club had several teams compete in recent State and Challenge Cup competitions.
The U15 boys white team made it to the semifinals in the State Cup; the U11 boys white and U11 girls white teams made it to the finals in the Challenge Cup; and the U12 boys white, U12 girls white and U15-16 girls blue teams made it to the semifinals in the Challenge Cup.
Girls head to nationals
The 13U Spiece Gym Rats girls basketball travel team will play at AAU Division 1 Nationals July 10 to 15. The Gym Rats, who are 51-8 won the AAU state championship, have the ninth seed for the event, according to a news release.
Best-ball qualifier set
Indiana amateur golfers may register for the McGladrey Team Championship, a national best-ball event that will conclude with the national finals Oct. 26 to 28 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
A qualifying event will be Saturday at Orchard Ridge Country Club. Other regional events will be July 11 at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash and July 19 at Cobblestone Golf Course in Kendallville.

Forest forum in Wabash
The results of a survey of forest stakeholders in Indiana that was completed June 1 will be presented to the public at a series of four meetings called the Indiana Stakeholders Summit, which will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Honeywell Center, 275 W. Market St., Wabash.
Shad reduced in lake
Use of a fish toxicant in Lake Everett last fall has reduced the number of unwanted gizzard shad in the 43-acre northwest Allen County lake near Arcola, based on the results of a survey conducted by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Biologists caught only four adult shad in 30 minutes of sampling on June 9, down from 137 shad captured a year ago.
Poker Paddle planned
Chain O Lakes State Parks annual Poker Paddle is Saturday.
Participants paddle the lakes and channels of the state park, collecting poker cards as they go, after registering at the Sand Lake boat rental between 8 and 10 a.m. Paddlers must finish by noon and turn in their hand at the Nature Center by 12:30 p.m.
The usual gate fee of $5 a vehicle for in-state residents and $7 a vehicle for out-of-state residents will be charged.
Park cancels art show
The Ouabache State Park Natural Beauty Art Show on July 4 has been canceled because of a lack of artist interest.
Instead, a Nature Center For A Day will be set up in the Campview Shelter House on Campground A from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
