Windows, Doors & More Factory Store will move into the former Ethan Allen furniture store on Washington Center Road this fall, co-owner Kevin Hunter said Tuesday. The building more than doubles the local company’s space to about 21,000 square feet.

The retail store and warehouse will make the move about September. In the meantime, the building at 1112 W. Washington Center Road is being outfitted with a new roof, low-level lighting and other energy-saving features. Total cost of the building and improvements is about $1.7 million, Hunter said.

Additional space will allow the home improvement company, now at Northcrest Shopping Center, to display more products, including kitchens, baths and room additions. The business is able to grow because many homeowners are remodeling rather than moving, Hunter said. “The home is just where it’s at,” he said. “People are continuing to spend money on their homes.”

Nursing home begins $2 million expansion

The Cedars, a Leo-Cedarville nursing home, is investing about $2 million to add a wing, Executive Director Larry Watkins said Tuesday.

Work started Monday on the addition, which will include eight private rooms, 11 assisted-living apartments, a physical-therapy department, a chapel and a hospice apartment. The expansion will increase the nursing home’s beds to 60 from 50.

Watkins hopes the new wing will be ready in January. The Cedars expects to hire about 15 after the opening, including licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants. Wages range from $10 to $25 an hour, he said.

Office support firm to move next door

Experienced Office Solutions plans to invest about $400,000 in a relocation of its northwest-side offices.

The company, which offers computer and network support, will move to 9811 Dawsons Creek Blvd. from 9813 Dawsons Creek Blvd. and expects to add four network-engineering positions. The project will begin in July and is expected to be complete in October.

The company currently shares office space with Summit CPA Group, an accounting firm focused on small- to medium-size businesses. Summit CPA will take over the space EOS occupied.

“This move will bring with it the opportunity for continued growth and the chance to venture out and expand our market,” said Mike Varner, sales manager for EOS. “We are adding a state-of-the-art data center, which will offer co-location, remote back-up and disaster recovery capabilities.”

The company requested tax abatement from the Fort Wayne City Council.

Verizon adds more high-def channels

Verizon Communications Inc. added six more high-definition channels to its local TV lineup this week, the company announced Tuesday.

FiOS TV customers can watch MTV, VH1, country music channel CMT, Nickelodeon, Spike TV and Comedy Central in high definition, Verizon spokesman Lee Gierczynski said. Verizon started airing the high-definition Viacom channels locally Monday.

Verizon now offers 117 high-definition channels to FiOS customers in Fort Wayne, New Haven and Huntertown, Gierczynski said. FiOS service is available to more than 126,000 northeast Indiana homes.
