Unconscious 5-year-old pulled from pool

NAPPANEE – A 5-year-old boy who was found unconscious in a city swimming pool in northern Indiana’s Nappanee has been transferred to Memorial Hospital in nearby South Bend.

The child was pulled Wednesday from a pool in Nappanee’s Stauffer Park by a lifeguard who saw him face down in the water.

Nappanee EMS director Jim Sumpter said the lifeguard immediately began CPR and the boy started breathing on his own after about one minute.

The child was taken to Goshen General Hospital and later transferred to South Bend.

Sumpter says the boy’s name has not been released and he didn’t know the boy’s condition Thursday.
