Indiana men’s basketball coach Tom Crean had liked what he’d seen from Daniel Moore. Unfortunately for the guard, the development will be slowed this summer.

Moore will be out for 10 weeks after suffering a foot injury at an Indiana basketball camp. Crean said Moore broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot and had surgery Monday.

“He was demonstrating, we were demonstrating different things at camp. He came down on his foot wrong,” Crean said during a news conference Wednesday at Assembly Hall.

Moore was a freshman walk-on last season. The Carmel graduate played in 31 games (10 starts) and averaged 17.2 minutes. He was second with 79 assists tied for second with 24 steals. He averaged 2.5 points.

“He had looked good. His body looked stronger, just in the times we saw him at camp,” Crean said. “Our focus with him now is that he continues to build that strength and that he just really work on the form and technique of his shot. Part of his rehabilitation will be to come back, we’ll lower a basket for him and let (strength and conditioning coach) Jeff Watkinson and (athletic trainer) Tim Garl oversee it with him really working and building.

“It’s part of anything else. Anytime something happens, you have to be able to work through it. Any injury, any aches and pains, any rehabilitation you have to find a way to get better. And that’s exactly what we want to do with him as well.”

Note: Crean said construction on the basketball development center is on schedule to be ready by January.

“We are excited about it. We are talking about different things that could go in the Hall of Fame, that big entryway when you come in,” he said. “We are going to see some different facilities here real quick and try to get some ideas from different people involved and see what’s here and that there. We want to make sure we get everybody on the same page with that and make sure the finishing touches look great. We are excited about the progress. I know they are working extremely hard over there.”
