Irish sophomore tight end to miss year

– Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis says sophomore tight end Joseph Fauria will miss the upcoming season for personal reasons.

Weis said Fauria is not enrolled in summer school and will not be enrolled in the fall. Weis said he hopes Fauria will be back in school in the spring.

The 6-foot-7, 245-pound tight end from Encino, Calif., played sparingly last season – he had no catches in three games as a backup – and was not expected to start this year.

Weis story on TV

Comcast SportsNet will air a behind-the-scenes special, “The Foundation of Charlie Weis,” detailing the off-the-field life of Notre Dame’s head football coach. The one-hour documentary will air at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Comcast SportsNet (cable Channel 31, digital Channel 201).

The show will look at Weis and his wife, Maura, and the creation of “Hannah and Friends,” named for their 14-year-old daughter, Hannah, who is severely developmentally challenged.
