Toddler drowns in Cass Lake

A 3-year-old girl drowned Saturday in a northwestern LaGrange County lake, according to Indiana Conservation Officers.

Officers and paramedics were called to Cass Lake just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a drowning. There a 3-year-old Wakarusa girl was pulled from the water and was not breathing, according to Conservation Officer Todd Lang.

A person at the lake started performing CPR on the child until paramedics arrived and transported her to LaGrange Parkview Hospital. The girl later died there.

An autopsy was performed Sunday. The Elkhart County girl's death was ruled accidental because of asphyxia, according to the LaGrange County Coroner's Office.
