2 killed in motorcycle crash ID’d

Two people killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday in Fort Wayne have been identified:

  • Dominique S. Simpson, 25, of Fort Wayne.
  • Mark A. Wilson, 38, Fort Wayne.
Three others were seriously injured when three motorcycles on which they were traveling hit a curb just east of downtown.

Fort Wayne police were called to Maumee Avenue and Comparet Street about 3:30 a.m. Sunday where the three motorcycles had crashed.

When police arrived, they found the man and woman dead, police spokesman officer Michael Joyner said.

Autopsies were performed on the two; both died of blunt-force trauma, having suffered head injuries, Allen County Coroner Dr. E. Jon Brandenberger said.

Police say two motorcyclists heading east on Maumee Avenue failed to negotiate a curve just west of Comparet.

Those operators, each carrying a companion, hit a curb, causing the bikes to flip and throwing all four people, Joyner said.

A third motorcyclist, also carrying a companion and following the other two cycles, was unable to stop in time and also hit the curb, throwing both people off the cycle.

None of the riders was wearing a helmet, Joyner said.

Three people were taken to a hospital for injuries ranging from broken bones to head trauma. All three were listed in serious condition Sunday.

Those injured were identified Monday as:

  • Latasha Maxwell, 25, Fort Wayne, listed in fair condition Monday.
  • Sam Sims II, 27, Fort Wayne, listed in fair condition Monday.
  • Shalana Lovett, 27, Fort Wayne, listed in fair condition Monday.
  • Brandall Towns, 34, Fort Wayne, refused medical assistance.
Maxwell was the passenger on the cycle operated by Sims and Lovett was the passenger on the cycle operated by Towns, police said.

Speed is believed to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Crash Team.
