Now we wait

Now that the NBA draft is complete, the Mad Ants and staff (read coach Joey Meyer and president Jeff Potter) will hit the summer league camps to check out the available talent. On Monday, the Ants announced that their affiliation with the Pacers, Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks will remain intact for another season. Thing is, it doesn't mean squat unless they can send some help.

To date, Detroit has been the only franchise that has sent players to Fort Wayne. The Ants got the 7-foot-1 shot blocking machine Cheikh Samb in their first year, and then got a couple players who played a couple games last season. And that's been it. No Pacers for two years, and no Bucks for last year.

I do think the acquisition of Joey Meyer as the head coach will help. Meyer, I believe, will carry more of a professional aura than Jaren Jackson had. And I liked Jaren. And the players liked Jaren. I'm not so sure that the players played hard for Jaren, though, and therein lies the rub.

Anyway, the summer leagues are about to start, which means D-League draft interest is about to do the same.
