Ex-manager faces theft, fraud counts

A Fort Wayne woman is accused of stealing at least $100,000 from a northwest-side mobile home park where she worked.

Allison Poulson, 37, of the 5300 block of Goshen Road, is charged with one count each of theft and fraud and two counts of forgery. She has not been arrested.

Police say that between January 2006 and November 2008, Poulson stole at least $100,000 from Edgewood Estates Mobile Home Park, 5330 Goshen Road, while she worked there as a property manager.

Poulson committed the theft by writing herself checks forged in the property manager’s name. She would then deposit the funds into her personal credit union account, according to court documents filed Monday in Allen Superior Court.

Furthermore, Poulson took funds by using a business credit card, which she obtained in the name of the property manager shortly after he lost most of his vision, documents state.

Police learned of the crime in November when the park’s property manager reported the theft. At that time, the property manager told police he tried to meet with Poulson to discuss what was going on – at which time she quit her job, court records state.

According to the property manager’s records, Poulson took more than $524,000 from the business. Police have determined at least $100,000 was stolen, court records state.

When questioned, Poulson admitted to police she stole money from the mobile home park. Poulson attributed her actions to being “harassed” by the property manager shortly after she was diagnosed with HIV, court records state.

Poulson further said she started gambling because of “the stress she was under.” Stealing the money was an attempt to cover her gambling expenses, documents state.
