New K-9 unit joins local state police post

Trooper Shane Neuenschwander and his partner Smokey have become the third K-9 unit assigned to the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne.

A third K-9 team has been added to the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne, the post announced today.

Trooper Shane Neuenschwander and his partner Smokey were graduated today in a ceremony at the Allen County Courthouse, police said in a statement.

The pair completed 14 weeks of training in drug detection, tracking, evidence search, building search, obedience and controlled aggression, the statement said.

State police now have 30 K-9 teams statewide.
