'08 candidate Oxley surrenders in intoxication case

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana’s 2008 Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor has surrendered to authorities the day after a judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

A Marion County prosecutor’s office spokesman said former state Rep. Dennie Oxley II surrendered Thursday morning at the Indianapolis City-County Building.

Oxley, 38, was charged Wednesday with misrepresenting himself as a state legislator to avoid arrest for public intoxication. Prosecutors said Oxley and a 21-year-old woman were found drunk at a downtown Indianapolis gas station early Friday.

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Oxley after he failed to surrender as expected Wednesday afternoon.
