‘A deeper sense of pride’

Downtown Manhattan is seen from the crown of the Statue of Liberty on Saturday. The first visitors were allowed into the Statue of Liberty's crown Saturday in nearly eight years after it was closed to the public after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The base, pedestal and outdoor observation deck reopened in 2004, but the crown remained off-limits.
Her crown was open to the public today.

Lady Liberty crown is a hit

The Sept. 11, 2001, attacked closed the crown of the Statue of Liberty.

As of July 4, 2009, the crown is to the public. The coveted tickets, however, are not easy to get.

They are sold out through the fall, according to this AP video.

President Obama in his July 4 address said an "unyielding spirit is what defines us as Americans" and led people during the nation's history to explore the West, persevere during the Depression and build a robust industrial economy.
