A driver who crashed is vehicle into a tree was in critical condition Sunday night, according to Fort Wayne police.Just before 8:30 p.m.A Florida woman was in critical condition Thursday night after she drove her car into the path of a tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 69 in Huntington County, prompting officials to close the highway.
The crash occurred at 5:47 p.m. near the Indiana 5 exit near Warren, state police said.
Gina N. Imbrunone, 21, of Jacksonville, Fla., was northbound on I-69 when her 2006 Nissan traveled across the median and struck a southbound tractor-trailer rig on its rear tandem axle, detaching the axle from the trailer, police said.
Imbrunone was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. She was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was in critical but stable condition Thursday night but was not listed at the hospital Friday.
A passenger in her vehicle, Katie L. Imbrunone, 24, of Daphne, Ala., was taken by ambulance to Parkview, where she was treated and released.
The driver of the rig, Nelson H. Huff II, 63, of Dallas, was not injured.
The southbound lanes of I-69 were closed for about 90 minutes, and the northbound lanes were closed for a time as well, state police said.
