The Fort Wayne police SWAT team and narcotics detectives removed four children from a home and arrested their mother after drug raids on two southeast-side residences Thursday night.

Officers found two loaded handguns and one-third of a pound of marijuana within reach of the children, ages 5 months to 7 years, when they searched the home at 4103 S. Hanna St. about 9:30 p.m. Officers also collected drug-packaging materials and scales, police said.

They arrested the children’s mother, Meshanda A. Jackson, 24, a resident of the home, on four counts of neglect of a dependent, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

The subject of the raid, 24-year-old Jermaine Davis Sr., was also arrested there, on two counts of dealing marijuana. Undercover police had previously purchased marijuana from him at the Hanna Street home and at 3113 Winter St.

When police searched the Winter Street home, they found several people but arrested only a 22-year-old woman on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges, police said.
