KOKOMO – The city of Kokomo and Howard County might rewrite ordinances to let them keep a greater share of fines from traffic violations, which now go mostly into state coffers.
Kokomo city attorney Derek Sublette says communities might be missing out on a large source of revenue by letting the state administer fines and penalties for ticket violations. He says only a few dollars from each state ticket remain locally.
The city of Lawrence recently made a similar change.
