Victims ID’d in fatal Steuben Toll Road crash

The Indiana State Police are continuing their investigation into a two-vehicle crash that killed two people Wednesday evening on the Indiana Toll Road. It kept the eastbound driving lane closed for a number of hours.

According to the Indiana State Toll Road District, a 2000 Ford sedan was traveling west on the Toll Road shortly before 7 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, it went through the median and into the eastbound lanes.

The Ford struck an eastbound 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig near the driver’s side door, and the Ford was forced underneath.

The driver of the Ford, Jessica S. Brown, 22, of Beaver Falls, Pa., and her passenger, Eric S. Kauffman, 21, of Mount Joy, Pa., died at the scene.

The Freightliner, owned by JRV Leasing out of Marinette, Wisc., was operated by Jeramy Joseph Webb, 32, of Morenci, Mich. Webb was not injured in the crash, police said.

Troopers John Grant and Al Martinez were assisted at the scene by the Orland Fire Department, the Steuben County Coroner’s Office and the Steuben County EMS.
