Howe principal accused of trysts with student, 14

Majewski

A Howe Military School principal and former candidate for public office was arrested Friday after school officials alerted police that they believed he was having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student.

Police believe 37-year-old Andrew J. Majewski had a sexual relationship with the boy and gave him alcohol at his LaGrange home several times over the last several months. None of the acts occurred at the school, Indiana State Police Detective Jeff Boyd said.

Majewski has worked at Howe since 2003. He was principal for sixth- through eighth-graders at the private college preparatory school and was a varsity soccer coach, according to the school’s Web site.

In an e-mail statement, Superintendent Duane VanOrden said administrators called police when they learned about the relationship. Majewski has been suspended pending the resolution of the charges.

Boyd said he had interviewed both Majewski and the teen but would not say whether Majewski denied or admitted to the allegations.

In addition to his role at Howe, Majewski ran unsuccessfully for Lima Township trustee in 2006.

“He’s a well-known person,” Boyd said.

Majewski isn’t the first Howe administrator to be accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student. A former commandant was charged in March 2002 and again in January 2004 with performing sex acts on minors. Both cases were later dropped.

Majewski faces charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child seduction. He was being held at the LaGrange County Jail in lieu of $13,500 bail.
