IPFW women set difficult schedule

IPFW women’s basketball coach Chris Paul is being ambitious – at least with his scheduling.

That might be the best way to describe the IPFW women’s basketball schedule, released Monday.

There’s a trip to Louisville, which lost to Connecticut in the national championship game last season, on Dec. 29.

There’s a game at Notre Dame, which went 22-9 and finished ranked No. 23 in The Associated Press poll last season, on Dec. 8.

The schedule features only three home games against non-conference Division I opponents: the season opener Nov. 14 against Wright State, Nov. 27 against Eastern Illinois and a Jan. 20 game against Chicago State in the middle of the Summit League season.

A fourth non-conference home game comes Dec. 23 against NAIA school Indiana Tech.

IPFW also travels to Butler (Nov. 18), Northwestern (Nov. 22), Akron (Dec. 2), Toledo (Dec. 12) and Fairfield (Dec. 20).

The Mastodons, which went 9-21 and reached the Summit League tournament for a second consecutive year last season, open league play at home against Oakland on Dec. 5 and will play five of their first seven Summit League games at home.
