Entrées, sweets, specials join Pointe menus

Two Jefferson Pointe restaurants have tweaked their menus to lure more diners with a taste for change.

•Eddie Merlot’s has added several appetizers and salads, such as sweet and spicy shrimp, a tempura shrimp maki roll and a romaine Waldorf salad. The latest entrées include grilled filet medallions, cedar-plank salmon, pan-seared duck breast and a 16-ounce New York strip steak. And for dessert, there’s a Peanut Butter Cup with peanut brittle crust, peanut butter, chocolate ganache and caramel ice cream.

Eddie Merlot’s also is offering “A Feast for One,” a dinner for $24.95 that’s available through Sept. 27. Feast on your choice of sesame ahi tuna, lemon chicken, a double-cut pork chop, cedar-plank salmon or a 6-ounce filet mignon. Each entrée is served with a potato, vegetable and a half Caesar salad.

•Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill is heating things up with Fire Stix (fries), smoked wings and a Buffalo chicken sandwich.

Other new items include chicken chili nachos, a steak and spinach salad, Pretzel Bones (soft pretzel sticks), Beer Battered Buttons (mushrooms) and more varieties of miniburgers.

The changes are part of an ongoing overhaul for the national chain.

Waynedale Cafe on way

The new Waynedale Cafe, 5700 Bluffton Road, is expected to open in early August and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The menu will feature a variety of sandwiches, pasta and steaks. Hours likely will be 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Owner Anabel Martinez also owns the South Side Cafe at 3028 S. Calhoun St.

Peony Tea House turns 3

How did Queen Victoria take her tea?

With sponge cake, of course.

The queen’s favorite dessert is just one of the many special treats Peony Tea House will serve during two events Aug. 1 to celebrate its third anniversary.

The breakfast tea starts at 10 a.m. and will feature quiche, a waffle fruit cup, scones and shortbread.

Or enjoy lunch at 2 p.m. with tea sandwiches (cucumber, broccoli and egg salad), savory salads, English trifle and other treats.

Reservations are required for these events; call 426-4832.

Regular lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; reservations are recommended.
