911 call thwarts possible heist

A manager at a southwest-side Walgreens pharmacy believes the same man accused of robbing his store before was preparing to rob again Monday, according to a Fort Wayne police report.

Officers were called just after 6 a.m. Monday to the Walgreens at 6202 W. Jefferson Blvd. for a report of an armed robbery in progress. A man had entered the store with a crumpled note in his hand, looking as if he was “up to something,” an employee told police.

When that employee called 911 and a manager to the pharmacy, the man purchased some cold medicine and left, the report said. The man was wearing heavy, thick clothes, employees told police.

The same pharmacy was robbed June 1 by a man police say has committed at least seven area pharmacy robberies since September. In each robbery, pain-killing drugs were taken, according to police.
