INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana State Fair is prepping for an extended run that will spread its sights and sounds over 17 days in August.
Indiana's state fair had been a 12-day affair since 1982. But fair officials say expanding it to 17 days will bring all of the popular 4-H events into the fold of the fair's official schedule.
For more than a quarter-century, many 4-H livestock competitions and other events were held prior to the fair's opening. That timing has prevented some 4-H youngsters and their families from experiencing the midway, fair rides, food booths and fair exhibits.
But this year, all 4-H events are part of the 17-day fair schedule that runs from Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 23, and covers three full weekends.
