HAMILTON, Ohio - Police in this southwest Ohio got their gator.
Hamilton Police Sgt. Craig Bucheit captured a 3 1/2-foot alligator spotted by a fisherman on Saturday near the Great Miami River. The officer used a snare police typically use to catch dogs to take the reptile into custody.
The gator was turned over to a wildlife rescue group.
Alligators are usually found in bodies of water in the southern United States, but occasionally turn up in northern states - sometimes after being turned loose by exotic pet owners. And it's not known how this alligator wound up in Ohio.
Bucheit says he learned a lot in police academy, but nothing about "gator wrangling."
