DeKalb school bus hit in 3-vehicle crash

A DeKalb Eastern school loaded with students was struck by a car involved in a three-vehicle accident Monday afternoon, according to DeKalb County police. There were no injuries.

Police said a Chevy Malibu, driven by Eleanor J. McCann, 81, of Butler was eastbound on DeKalb County Road 40 at about 1:30 p.m. When it entered the intersection at Indiana 1, it struck a northbound Chevy Equinox, driven by Patrick L. Weidenhamer, 58, of Hamilton. Weidenhamer's car spun 180 degrees and came to rest on the west side of Indiana 1 facing south.

The McCann car continued east through the intersection and struck the school bus, driven by Mary C. Steury, 50, of St. Joe. The bus was stopped at the intersection on County Road 40.

Police said after the students were checked for injuries. Another bus took them to their destinations. The number of students on the bus was not available.
