Ray Fisher had 42 catches last year for IU, the most among returning players. But during the offseason, he asked to move the secondary.
The coaching staff obliged, and Fisher will be one of the starting cornerbacks this fall.
Fisher, who is 5-foot-9, has improved vastly from spring to the fall. He’s added weight, 13 pounds of muscle according to the team’s media guide, since making the move.
"Coach wouldn’t have made the move unless they didn’t think he could do something over there. He has the heart, the fight in him," defensive end Jammie Kirlew said. "It doesn’t matter if he’s going against a 6-foot-7 receiver, he’s going to do everything he can in his power to make sure he doesn’t catch that ball. That’s what you need in a corner."
Junior Richard Council led IU with nine pass breakups. He made 45 tackles and had one interception in 10 games (seven starts).
Monday, I’ll look at free safety.
