Crash kills local passenger in Ohio

A Fort Wayne woman died Saturday morning and another was in critical condition after a crash in northwest Ohio.

Bette Harris, 76, was a passenger in a 2008 Buick that was eastbound on Ohio 613 east of Continental in Putnam County.

At 10:15 a.m., the Buick, driven by Cynthia French, 75, pulled out in front of a minivan at Ohio 15, about 50 miles east of Fort Wayne, police said.

The northbound minivan, driven by 18-year-old Jenna Silverman of Kettering, Ohio, struck French’s car on the passenger side.

Harris died on arrival at a Putnam County hospital.

French was flown to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. She was listed in critical condition Saturday evening. Silverman was taken to Defiance Regional Medical Center.
