At 7 p.m. Aug. 17 more than 130 citizens of Wells and surrounding counties had a public meeting. They met for more than two hours at 1011 W. Washington St. in Bluffton. Their numbers had increased more than double from the organizational meeting that was held just two weeks prior at the Wells County Courthouse Annex.
Who are these people and what are they about? Well, one reason that you may not know the answer is because although the news media was made aware of these meetings, they did not cover them.
We have chosen the name Patriots of the Constitution for the group, with our motto being simply enough! We are just ordinary citizens, Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians and Independents spanning all ages and occupational strata. The special interest that has brought us together is a love of God and country.
We seek to reverse the current flood of disastrous changes in our country being brought about by an increasingly elitist ruling class of government officials. They have abandoned the principles of free market capitalism, limited government and individual freedom and responsibility that were secured for us in the Constitution by our Founding Fathers. They seem to have forgotten that the first three words of that beloved document are We the People.
Please join in the effort of like-minded citizens to preserve the blessings of freedom and liberty and restore this country to the constitutional republic of its founding.
Our next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the Fellowship Hall of Christian New Light Church, 1011 W. Washington St., Bluffton.
