Gunshot victim released from hospital

A woman critically wounded Saturday during a shooting has been treated and released from a hospital, according to officer Michael Joyner, Fort Wayne police spokesman.

Shana Ensley, 27, of Fort Wayne, was shot inside an apartment at the Tamara Gardens apartment complex in the 6700 block of John Street shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.

After Ensley was shot, someone apparently loaded her into a car, police said. Ensley was being driven to a hospital when a Fort Wayne police officer spotted the car, which was being driven at high speed. The officer pulled the vehicle over in the 900 block of South Anthony Boulevard, according to police.

No arrests have been made. Police suspect the shooting was a result of a domestic disturbance.

Death near I-69 ruled a suicide

The Huntington County coroner has ruled the death of a Tennessee man a suicide – after a motorist spotted his body hanging from a tree near Interstate 69 and Indiana 224.

A motorist spotted the man hanging near the J. Edward Roush Reservoir in Markle just after 9 a.m. Monday, said Leon Hurlburt, Huntington County coroner. The deceased man was visible from the exit ramp of Indiana 224 where it connects to the southbound lanes of I-69, he said.

The man has been identified as Richard Vanmeter, 42, of Martin, Tenn., and his death was ruled a suicide, Hurlburt said. Investigators are unsure when the death occurred or why he was in Indiana.

3 in Kosciusko face meth-tied charges

Three Kosciusko County residents were arrested over the weekend on preliminary methamphetamine-related charges, according to sheriff’s deputies.

On Friday, members of the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force – along with Pierceton police – arrested Mark Holbrook, 31, of Warsaw, just outside of Pierceton. He faces preliminary charges of possession of meth precursors and possession of marijuana. He was being held in lieu of $2,000 bail.

On Sunday two people were arrested near Warsaw after city police acted on an anonymous tip regarding a meth lab at a home. Chase Elder, 24; and Stephanie Farrell, 33, both of Claypool, were found at the home, along with items used to make meth, police said.

Elder faces preliminary charges of dealing meth and possession of meth precursors. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. Farrell was preliminarily charged with possession of meth and was being held in lieu of $2,000 bail.
