Death near I-69 ruled a suicide

The Huntington County coroner has ruled the death of a Tennessee man a suicide - after a motorist spotted his body hanging from a tree near Interstate 69 and Indiana 224. A motorist spotted the man hanging near the J. Edward Roush Reservoir in Markle just after 9 a.m. Monday, said Leon Hurlburt, Huntington County coroner. The deceased man was visible from the exit ramp of Indiana 224 where it connects to the southbound lanes of I-69, he said.

The man has been identified as Richard Vanmeter, 42, of Martin, Tenn., and his death was ruled a suicide, Hurlburt said. Investigators are unsure when the death occurred or why he was in Indiana.
